A new movie is making use of mobile phones as media platforms, just like the makers always wanted us to. British director Sally Potter’s new film Rage will not only be released by mobile phone, but is entirely shot from their point of view. For the week of September 21st one episode a day will be available for free download - making a million-pound movie just like any film clip your friends send you.

If you don’t recognise the director’s name be reassured that the cast includes Steve Buscemi, Eddie Izzard, Jude Law, Judi Dench and others - this is no student film festival “me and my friends” project. We’ll have to wait and see how well the movie uses the new mode of delivery - Dr Horrible’s Sing Along blog made excellent use of a blog-style delivery, making money on DVD release after interest had been generated. Whether mobile movie clips have reached the same ability to support projects will soon be seen.
